Do You Put a Comma Between City and State When Writing an Essay
Do You Put a Comma Between City and State When Writing an Essay?I am often asked if you put a comma between city and state when writing an essay. It is a common question that I get from my students, professors, and friends who are confused. Many years ago, during the first few weeks of the semester in Texas High School Seniors were asked to write essays for final exams. Many of the teachers assigned them essays that asked them to go over the history of the state of Texas and compare the state to the United States. The assignment to study Texas was very helpful for the students as it provided them with an in depth look at the history of the state and a comparison of it to the nation. The first part of the essay read 'In 1769, Texas was officially declared the third state of the United States of America, after Kentucky and Missouri.' The second part of the essay asked them to add a section called 'What is the Difference Between Texas and the United States?'One of the ways that you can an swer this question is to compare the population of the states with the number of people that live in Texas. The Texas population was nearly double the United States population in 1830, and it has remained consistent ever since. This makes Texas appear to be the most populated state in the U.S. than the average, which is why they added the question on the first paragraph to the student's essay.Other ways that you can answer the question, 'What is the Difference Between Texas and the United States,' is to look at the geography of Texas. Texas borders eight different states, but only two of them are contiguous states. The population in the state of Texas is less than half the size of that of the states in the middle of the continent, which gives the other states some type of advantage. They can afford to buy more products because they do not have to purchase everything first. This will also allow them to purchase goods in bulk. The answers to this question are yes and no. You will need t o research the facts about the population of Texas and what the sizes of the population of the other states are to answer the question, 'What is the Difference Between Texas and the United States?'
